Top 5 Stress-Free Moving Tips

Marcus Henning • January 19, 2021

Moving is no joke. Moving is not something that you can plan today, then do it tomorrow. To achieve a successful and stress-free move, you need a plan from preparing your supplies to packing your stuff, loading them to the truck, and moving to your new home. There is so much to do if you are alone. It could burn you out and bring your crazy days if you failed to do your research.
Sure, no one can ever say that moving is fun. But there is an excellent chance to make it smooth and stress-free. You can move to your new place without a heavy heart and troubled mind. And your road to stress-free and smooth moving includes these simple steps that you can do before and during your moving day.

 1. Do an inventory. Your belongings are the most crucial part of moving. Every member of your family could be ready with the transition promptly, but organizing and preparing your stuff could take a week or more. To make the process easy, it’s recommended to do an inventory with all your stuff. Categorize them by type, such as furniture, clothes, bags, boxes, beddings, kitchenware, etc. During this step, you can sort those things that you must bring to your new home or those that you can donate or sell. The reality is you don’t need to get everything with you as you start a new life. Let go of that stuff that you haven’t used for a year because you don’t need them. They can be useful for someone out there.
2. Organize your boxes.
When organizing your packages, you must separate items that are fragile and not. If you placed your essential items inside a single box, label it correctly and make sure to load it last inside the truck or moving van. Another right way to organize your boxes is to label them with the specific room or location that needs to be delivered. Some valuables can be placed inside an innocuously-labelled box, but make sure that you can remember it.
3. Communicate with your movers.
Communication is essential when moving, especially if you hired professional movers to do the job. Be present when they are loading and unloading your items. Double-check your mover’s inventory with the list that you prepared. Review the details that you provided to your professional movers, especially the address of your new home. Excellent and reliable movers will always be ready to help you, so maximize their efficiency by providing clear directions. Always keep your mobile phone beside you so you can pick their message instantly.
4. Do a last-minute check.
The last thing that you would want to happen after moving is to remember that you forgot some jewellery pieces or essential documents from your old house, especially if you are moving to another state or country. It could be a huge hassle to go back and forth. You can avoid this trouble by doing a last-minute check-in in every part of your old home. Check every drawer and cabinet, as well as some places that you often use as secret storage. With this step, you can determine whether you are missing some switches that were not turned off and doors and windows that were not shut.
5. Prepare a “contingency plan”.
Despite those preparations done, something might go wrong during the moving day. If you asked those people who have experienced moving, they understand the idea of a “contingency plan”. You don’t have to do it alone. If you are moving with your parents, wife, or children who are old enough to understand the idea of moving, you can seek their help. During the last day of your preparation, gather every adult in your family, and prepare a sheet of paper to write down all the possible troubles during the moving day. Did it end up raining during your moving day? The parking spaced that you prepared in your new place was taken? The travel took longer than expected? Prepare a solution for these scenarios so you won’t have to stress yourself on the day of the move because things got out of your hands.
The smooth and stress-free move may sound impossible for some. But if you can do these simple steps before your moving day, you can turn this “fantasy” into a “reality” for you and your family.
